- Employee, part time
- Compensation
- $50,000-60,000 annually
The role
A Good Reason is seeking a Fractional Chief Financial Officer to help build the financial foundation of a growing creative direction and event production studio. This person will serve as a strategic financial partner to the Founder, helping translate the company’s creative ambition into disciplined financial decisions, sustainable growth and long-term enterprise value.
This is not primarily a bookkeeping role. We are looking for someone who can understand the numbers, build the systems behind them and use both to help guide the business.
What you will do
- Build and maintain AGR’s financial planning and forecasting framework
- Develop cash flow forecasts and help establish appropriate operating reserves
- Partner with the Founder on annual budgets, revenue targets and growth planning
- Evaluate service pricing, project economics, margins and profitability
- Review AGR’s professional-fee model and help assess the financial performance of individual engagements
- Develop financial dashboards and reporting that make the health of the business easy to understand
- Help establish disciplined processes for expenses, contractor costs, reimbursements and project-level financial tracking
- Advise on hiring affordability, contractor utilization and future payroll planning
- Support tax planning and year-end readiness in coordination with AGR’s accountant or tax professional
- Help evaluate major purchases, investments and financial commitments
- Support banking, cash management and financial-control decisions as the company grows
- Provide financial perspective on expansion, retained earnings and owner compensation
- Help prepare AGR for future financing, lending or other capital needs if they arise
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Founder on significant financial decisions
What we are looking for
Required
- Demonstrated experience in senior financial leadership, fractional CFO services, finance strategy or an equivalent advisory capacity
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting and cash flow management skills
- Ability to interpret financial information and translate it into clear business recommendations
- Experience evaluating profitability, margins, pricing and operating performance
- Strong understanding of financial controls and small-business financial infrastructure
- Exceptional discretion with confidential financial and business information
- Clear, practical communication with founders and non-finance stakeholders
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with external accounting, tax and legal professionals
- Strong judgment and attention to detail
Preferred
- Experience advising founder-led or privately held businesses
- Experience with service-based, creative, hospitality, events, agency or professional-services businesses
- Experience helping an early-stage business build financial systems before significant scale
- Experience with project-level profitability and service pricing
- Experience advising businesses using a mix of employees and independent contractors
- Familiarity with accounting platforms and financial reporting tools used by small and growing businesses
- Experience supporting businesses through meaningful revenue growth
Availability and schedule
Regular monthly availability is expected, with additional availability around financial planning, major contracts, year-end preparation and significant business decisions.
Flexible, part-time fractional engagement with hours based on the needs and stage of the business.
Location and travel
Primarily remote. Occasional in-person meetings in Maryland may be requested as the business grows.
Working with A Good Reason
A Good Reason is a creative direction and event production studio built around a simple belief: every gathering starts with a good reason. We are building the business with the same intention we bring to the experiences we create.
The Fractional CFO will work closely with the Founder and will be expected to bring rigor without unnecessary complexity. We value clear thinking, thoughtful questions, sound judgment and financial systems that help the business make better decisions rather than simply produce more reports.
