Every gathering starts with a good reason.
To mark the beginning of A Good Reason, A Good Reason LLC (“AGR,” “we,” “us,” or “the Studio”) is inviting individuals to submit a gathering they would like us to help bring to life in 2027.
Through ONE GOOD REASON, AGR intends to select one gathering to receive complimentary Creative Direction + Planning professional services for an agreed scope.
This is an open call for a creative commission. It is not a random drawing, sweepstakes, raffle, or chance-based promotion.
By submitting an application, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms.
1
Application Period
Applications are expected to open October 5, 2026 and close November 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
AGR may extend, shorten, suspend, or cancel the application period when reasonably necessary. Any material change will be communicated through the campaign page or AGR’s official channels.
2
Eligibility
Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of submission.
The proposed gathering must take place between January 1 and December 31, 2027.
The open call is primarily intended for gatherings taking place in Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and surrounding areas reasonably serviceable by AGR.
AGR may consider events outside this area, including destination events, at its discretion. The selected client will be responsible for approved travel-related expenses required to perform the work, including transportation, lodging, applicable per diem, and other agreed travel costs.
Submitting an application does not guarantee eligibility, selection, availability, or services.
3
How to Apply
Applicants must submit the designated ONE GOOD REASON inquiry through A Good Reason during the application period.
There is no fee to apply.
Applicants should provide complete and accurate information about their proposed gathering, including the reason for gathering, anticipated date or timeframe, location, guest count, desired experience, planning needs, and anticipated event investment.
Only one application is necessary for a proposed gathering.
Social-media activity is not part of the selection criteria. Following AGR, liking a post, tagging another person, commenting, or sharing campaign content does not increase an applicant’s likelihood of selection.
4
What AGR Is Offering
AGR intends to waive its professional fee for the Creative Direction + Planning services included in the mutually agreed project scope for one selected gathering.
The exact scope will be established after consultation and documented in a written client agreement.
Depending on the project, AGR’s services may include areas such as creative direction, experience development, planning, design development, vendor coordination, production planning, and other services specifically identified in the final agreement.
The open call does not create an unlimited or unrestricted obligation for AGR to provide services.
Services outside the agreed complimentary scope, material increases in scope, substantial changes to the event, or additional services requested after contracting may require a separate written agreement and additional professional fees.
5
What Is Not Complimentary
ONE GOOD REASON is not a free event.
AGR is contributing its professional services within the agreed scope. AGR is not offering to fund the gathering.
The selected client remains financially responsible for all event and third-party expenses, including, as applicable, venue, catering, beverages, rentals, florals, decor materials, entertainment, stationery, printing, fabrication, photography, videography, transportation, accommodations, staffing, security, permits, insurance, shipping, delivery, installation labor, taxes, service charges, gratuities, and other event-related expenses.
The selected client is also responsible for approved travel expenses, lodging, applicable per diem, and related costs when travel is required for AGR or agreed members of the project team.
Unless specifically agreed otherwise in writing, AGR will not advance, finance, or personally absorb third-party vendor expenses on the client’s behalf.
6
Event Investment and Feasibility
Applicants must have a realistic client-funded event investment appropriate to the gathering they are proposing.
Investment expectations vary significantly according to event type, guest count, location, scope, design requirements, vendor market, and production complexity.
As general planning context, an intimate dinner may require an event investment in the range of approximately $7,500 to $10,000 or more, while a wedding involving substantial creative direction and planning may require approximately $70,000 to $100,000 or more.
These examples are not quotes, packages, guaranteed minimums, or promises that a particular event can be produced for those amounts.
Other gathering types will be evaluated individually.
AGR may determine during review or consultation that an applicant’s proposed investment is not sufficient for the requested scope. The parties may explore a revised scope, but AGR is not required to reduce the creative or production requirements of a project in order to make it eligible.
7
How the Project Will Be Selected
ONE GOOD REASON is a Studio-selected creative commission, not a random drawing.
AGR will consider factors that may include:
- alignment with AGR’s creative point of view and approach
- the reason for gathering and the story or intention behind it
- creative opportunity
- feasibility
- proposed event investment relative to scope
- event date and Studio availability
- location and logistical requirements
- guest count and production complexity
- opportunities for meaningful guest experience
- the applicant’s openness to the creative and planning process
No single factor guarantees selection.
AGR retains creative and professional discretion in determining which proposed gathering, if any, is appropriate for the commission.
AGR may elect not to select a project if no submission is appropriate or feasible.
8
Shortlisting and Consultation
AGR may contact applicants for additional information or invite one or more applicants to a consultation before making a final selection.
Being contacted, shortlisted, interviewed, or invited to a consultation does not mean an applicant has been selected.
Applicants who are not selected have no obligation to hire AGR.
Likewise, AGR has no obligation to offer paid services to applicants who are not selected.
9
Selection and Acceptance
AGR expects to contact the selected applicant by November 15, 2026.
Selection is not final merely because an applicant receives an initial notification.
The selected applicant must complete any requested consultation or project review, confirm the feasibility of the proposed event investment, agree to the final scope, and execute AGR’s client agreement within the acceptance period provided by AGR.
If a selected applicant does not respond within the stated period, cannot proceed with the project, materially changes the proposed event, cannot support the agreed event investment, or cannot reach agreement with AGR regarding scope or contractual terms, AGR may withdraw the selection and consider another applicant.
AGR is not required to publicly identify the selected applicant.
10
Client Agreement
The selected project will be governed by a separate written AGR client agreement.
That agreement will establish the final scope, responsibilities, project schedule, event investment, vendor arrangements, payment responsibilities, changes, cancellations, postponements, travel requirements, intellectual property provisions, media permissions, liability provisions, and other terms applicable to the engagement.
If there is a conflict between these Open Call Terms and the executed client agreement regarding performance of the selected project, the executed client agreement will control for the client engagement.
11
Vendors and Third Parties
Third-party vendors remain independent businesses and are not made employees or agents of AGR merely because AGR recommends, sources, coordinates, or communicates with them.
Vendor selection, contracting, deposits, payment schedules, cancellation terms, and other financial obligations will be handled according to the final client agreement and applicable vendor contracts.
The complimentary AGR professional fee does not eliminate or reduce amounts owed to third-party vendors.
12
Changes, Postponement, or Cancellation
A significant change to the selected project’s date, location, guest count, scope, investment, format, or other material element may affect AGR’s ability to continue providing the complimentary services.
Postponement or cancellation does not create a cash entitlement or credit equal to AGR’s waived professional fee.
Specific change, postponement, cancellation, and termination provisions will be established in the final client agreement.
13
Documentation and Portfolio Use
ONE GOOD REASON is intended in part to document AGR’s creative and planning work.
Applicants should understand that the selected project is expected to permit reasonable documentation of AGR’s work for portfolio, website, social-media, editorial, promotional, educational, and business-development purposes, subject to the final client agreement.
AGR will address reasonable privacy considerations during contracting, including circumstances involving children, private family matters, sensitive information, or restrictions concerning identifiable guests.
Specific photography, videography, intellectual property, credit, vendor attribution, and usage permissions will be documented in the client agreement where applicable.
Submitting an application alone does not give AGR permission to publicly use an applicant’s personal story, name, photographs, or proposed event as portfolio material.
14
Applicant Information and Privacy
Information submitted through the open call will be used to review the proposed gathering, communicate with the applicant, administer the open call, and evaluate potential services.
Submission of an application does not authorize AGR to publicly announce or publish an applicant’s personal information.
AGR may retain appropriate business records associated with the application in accordance with its normal business practices and applicable law.
15
No Client Relationship From Application
Submitting an application, receiving correspondence, being shortlisted, or participating in a consultation does not by itself create a planner-client, fiduciary, agency, or other professional relationship with AGR.
A client engagement begins only after the required written agreement is executed.
Applicants should not incur expenses or make commitments in reliance on possible selection.
16
No Cash Value or Transfer
The complimentary professional services have no cash alternative.
A selected applicant may not sell, assign, transfer, exchange, or redeem the complimentary services for cash or credit.
The services apply only to the selected gathering and agreed client relationship unless AGR expressly agrees otherwise in writing.
17
Changes to or Cancellation of the Open Call
AGR reserves the right to modify, suspend, postpone, or cancel ONE GOOD REASON when reasonably necessary because of circumstances affecting the integrity, feasibility, legality, administration, or operation of the open call.
AGR will not use this provision to retroactively impose undisclosed financial obligations on applicants.
18
Social Platform Disclaimer
ONE GOOD REASON is offered by A Good Reason and is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram, Meta, or other social-media platforms on which the open call may be promoted.
Applicants release such platforms from responsibility for the administration or selection of the open call to the extent permitted by applicable law.
